Membership

Membership in the Missouri Association of Public Purchasing, Inc. is open to anyone engaged in public purchasing and materials management. In accordance with MAPP bylaws, membership is open to "Public Institution Procurement and Material Management Personnel, including Federal, State, County, Municipal and Township activities, Public School Systems, colleges, Universities, Hospitals, Commissions, authorities and other political subdivisions.

With membership, an individual receives a membership certificate and a lapel pin, a copy of the Code of Ethics: a subscription to the MAPP Newsletter; information relating to certification and professional development; access to a variety of bid specifications; an opportunity to meet with and work with other professionals in public purchasing and the opportunity to vote in all elections and help determine the course of the Association and the public purchasing profession. MAPP members are eligible for scholarships to help offset the expenses of attending various conferences and/or seminars. In addition, MAPP members can receive substantial discounts on registration fees for attending MAPP conferences.

Education

MAPP coordinates outstanding educational opportunities offered by the National Institute of Government Purchasing (NIGP) at classroom locations in Missouri. Content specific classes are offered on topics that range from legal issues and ethics to sourcing, solicitations, contract administration, and program management; with emphasis placed on sharing a clear understanding of public procurement fundamentals. Case studies and classroom exercises are utilized throughout the program as critical approaches to adult learning. And the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) Commission has designated NIGP as an authorized provider of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for those who participate in a NIGP seminar. This is a comprehensive directory of MAPP public purchasing professionals. This searchable database is updated with members' names and contact information and is the definitive directory for current information on other public purchasers. This directory is password protected to secure membership information so that you won't be bombarded by contacts from outside of the membership.

Certification

MAPP encourages its members to obtain professional procurement certifications. By participating in various MAPP events, publications, and/or seminars, you can achieve points and fulfill qualifications necessary for such certifications. Mastering proven, generally accepted practices and good management techniques, certification is a symbol to taxpayers that the public employee who manages their tax dollars has reached a higher level of education and overall professional development.
